 Demetrios Georgous

"I started gambling when I was 8 years old, playing in my parents Stud games at home" that's why they call him Jimmy the Greek.  "I was born on the day of Super Bowl #1" he says.  That makes him a Capricorn and forty-something years old.

Last summer, Demetrios told me an hour into event 18 that he was going to win that tournament.  Well, he didn't, so I guess you can't believe everything he says (like most gamblers).

That event was won by Adam Agaev (Brooklyn, NY) who picked up $28,026 for his victory.

Gregg Miller (Marlboro, NJ) finished 7th in yesterday's $260 Big Stack NLH event ($1,685) and he's back again today, in the hunt for bounties.

Glenn Lafaye (Ridgefield, CT) is back for more, after finishing 32nd in the Championship event ($4,402).

'Syracuse' Chris Tsiprailidis is making an appearance today.  Chris won his WSOP bracelet playing Limit Hold'em in 2000 and he has more titles than you can shake a stick at.  He's won tournaments from Atlantic City to Los Angeles, with winnings in excess of $2.6 million, but has yet to claim a Borgata Open title.  Could this be his day?

      Event 20 Recap

      $260 + $40 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Doug Pinto (Princeton, NJ) had his arm twisted to come to the Borgata Summer Poker Open and he's glad he finally gave in.  Pinto defeated Leo Goldberger (Brooklyn, NY) heads up to win the penultimate event of the series and $12,636.

"After all the texts, emails and phone calls I decided to play," said Pinto who gave credit to friend Steve Coppola (Staten Island, NY) for convincing him to come along.  "I didn't want him to be alone," joked Pinto who was glad for Coppola's support on the rail after he busted early in the day.

The pivotal heads up hand came when Pinto and Goldberger were nearly dead even in chips and Pinto out flopped Goldberger's pocket jacks with K 8.  A few hands later, Pinto won the tournament with Q 2♠ vs Goldberger's pocket 2s when the board double paired and Pinto's queen kicker was best.

"I got a little unlucky at the end," said Goldberger, "but overall I played very, very good."

Borgata trophy winner James Sloat came to the final table with the chip lead and rode it to a third place finish.  "I had to make some tough lay downs," said Sloat, who won a Deep Stack in April's Spring Poker Open for $34,000.  "I don't like calling off against another big stack," he said.

After the money bubble broke, it only took one hour to go from 18 to seven players as the eliminations were fast and furious.  Borgata regular Rob Saladin came in 15th place ($737), while familiar face Matt Piccolo finished 5th.

The 167 entries featured the Miller brothers, Borgata regular Eric and his brother Gregg, who finished in 7th place.  Others who contributed to the $43,420 total buy-in included Jason Warriner
Andrew Interdonato and Borgata three time trophy winner Howard Wolper.

"This is my first official Borgata win with a trophy," said Pinto, who was all smiles.  "I need to unwind and then be back in the morning. I want to go back-to-back."

No arm twisting this time for Pinto who said he and Coppola will be playing in Friday's final event of the Summer Open.

      Event 20 Winner - Pinto

      $260 + $40 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

      Doug Pinto (Princeton, NJ)
      $12,636

      Blinds 30k/60k/5k ante

The pivotal hand comes with Pinto holding K 8 vs Leo Goldberger's pocket jacks.

      Pinto: K 8
      Goldberger: J♠ J♣

Flop: K♣ A♠ 10 (Pinto pair of kings, Goldberger gutshot straight draw)

      Turn: 8♠ (Pinto two pairs)

      River: 2

Pinto wins the hand with two pairs, kings and eights and it's actually a double-up.  Goldberger barely has Pinto covered and after shipping 1.555 across the table is left with 225k.

A few hands later Pinto wins the tournament with Q 2 vs the pocket 2s of Goldberger. The board runs out 9 9 6 6 7 and Goldberger's pocket pair is counterfeited giving Pinto the win with his queen kicker.

"This is my first official Borgata win with a trophy," says Pinto, who is all smiles.

The stock trader was persuaded by friend Steve Coppola (Staten Island, NY) to play in the tournament and is now $12,636 richer because of it.  Coppola busted early in the day, but was on the rail watching Pinto get the win.

      Event 20: 2nd Place - Goldberger

      $260 + $40 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

       Leo Goldberger (Brooklyn, NY)
      $6,949

Goldberger was down 2 to 1 in chips when heads up play began, but pulled even with a great run of cards.  On four straight hands he got KK, AK, AA and JJ, but unfortunately the jacks didn't hold.

Goldberger, after showing the first three hands without a flop, is called by Doug Pinto with K 8. Pinto ends up with two pairs and most of the chips.

A few hands later Goldberger is eliminated when his pocket twos are counterfeited and Pinto's Q 2 wins the tournament with the queen kicker.

"I got a little unlucky at the end," said Goldberger, "but overall I played very, very good."

Goldberger, who started his own business dealing with self help, earned $6,949 for his runner-up finish.

      Event 20: 3rd Place - Sloat

      $260 + $40 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

      Goldberger: Q♠ Q

      Flop: A♣ 3 8♠

      Turn: 6♣

      River: 8

Goldberger's queens hold and he knocks out Sloat in 3rd place for $4,001.

Goldberger is now heads up with Doug Pinto who has a 2 to 1 chip lead, 2.2 million to 1.1 million.
