Championship 1st Place - Marji

$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH

Melad Marji (Atlantic City, NJ)
$198,078

On the final hand, Melad Marji decided to call Michael Marder's 6-bet-shove for 4.155 million.

Melad had 4.34 million chips and would have had 185k left if he lost the hand (3 big blinds).

He didn't have to face that issue since his AQ out-ran pocket 7s to take down the tournament.

Melad Marji will collect $198,078 for the win, along with 2012 Borgata Summer Open Championship trophy.

This is Melad's first live tournament win and largest cash ever.  He's headed to Las Vegas next week to play in the WSOP Main Event!

Melad sends thanks to all his friends and family, and especially his Mom!

Championship 2nd Place - Marder

$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH

Michael Marder (Sewell, NJ)
$110,044

After a raising war, Michael Marder was all-in and Melad Marji considered it for a moment, then called.

Michael had pocket 7s.  Melad was racing with AQ off.

The board came Q J 9 K T putting a King-high straight on the board, but Melad's Ace gave him Broadway and the pot, and the win.

Michael Marder finished in second place, earning $110,044.

Michael finished 3rd in the 2012 Borgata Winter Open $500 No Limit Hold'em event, good for over $15,000.  Today's second place finish is not only his highest finish ever, it is also his largest.  In fact, the $110,044 prize money is almost quadruple his lifetime earnings to date!

Michael had lots of friends and family on the rail watching today, but wanted to send a Hi to his Uncle Paul, who has helped him with good advice.

Championship Recap

$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH

Twenty-three-year-old Melad Marji (Atlantic City, NJ) essentially decided to flip for $88,034, the difference between first and second place money, when he called Michael Marder's six-bet-shove pre-flop.  Marji came out on top of the flip when his AQ outran Marder's pocket 7s on the board of Q J 9 K T.  Marji picked up $198,078 and the beautiful Borgata trophy in his first win in a live tournament.

Michael Marder (Sewell, NJ) came up short, finishing second for $110,044.  Marder ran well through the whole four day event, getting good hands and having them hold up (until the last one).  In contrast, Melad Marji kept getting his good hands cracked.  On day 1B, near the end, he was in contention for the $3,000 bonus for end of day chip lead.  Then his pocket Aces were cracked by K6 suited that made a flush, costing him 60,000 chips.  Today his pocket Aces were cracked by Anthony Maio's pocket Queens, when Maio turned a Queen.  Anthony Maio (Bensalem, PA) eventually finished 4th for $55,022.

Third place went to another Borgata regular, Yat 'Tony' Cheng (Brooklyn, NY).  His tournament life rested on a coin-flip with AQ against Marji's pocket 5s.  In that case the pair held up and Cheng finished 3rd for $68,227.  This is his largest reported cash, but not his highest finish.  Cheng won a $500 WSOP Circuit preliminary event in 2010 for over $55,000.  Later that same year, he finished 2nd in a Borgata $1k Deep Stack No Limit event for almost $54,000.

The elder statesman at this final table was John Aglialoro (Haddonfield, NJ) at 68 years of age.  John is best known for making the final table of the 1994 WSOP Main Event, where he finished 7th for $43,680.  He won the 2004 US Poker Championship for over $691,000.

Aglialoro was short-stacked at the start of play and narrowly avoided finishing 10th by catching a 2-outer on the river.  He took that double-up and parlayed it into a 7th place finish ($28,978) when he was on the receiving end of a bad beat.

2011 Borgata Summer Open Champion Tyng Low (Flushing, NY) made it to day two, but fell short of the money when his AJ lost a flip to pocket 7s.  Other big names that failed to cash:  Bill Gazes, Howard Wolper, Bo Toft, and preliminary event winners Paul Vacchio and Collin Whyte.  Cuong Phung (Atlantic City, NJ) busted out of the Championship event, only to go on and win his second Borgata Open title in Wednesday's $200 Deep Stack event.

The Double Play and Re-Entry features of this event helped to generate a total of 305 entries over two starting days.  Total buy-ins of $762,500 crushed the $500,000 Guarantee.  The final 36 players earned a payday, with bonuses for the end of day 1A & 1B chip leaders.

The $3,000 bonus for chip leader on day 1A went to Eugene Fouksman, (Manalapan, NJ) a 2007 WSOP Circuit Champion.  Eugene made it to day three and the money, finishing 23rd for $5,502.  The day 1B bonus went to Cathy Dever, (Ephrata, PA) who busted out on day two before reaching the money.

The 2012 Borgata Summer Open Championship event first-place money of $198,078 is the biggest payday Melad Marji has ever seen.  The college dropout is headed for Las Vegas on Sunday to play in the WSOP Main Event, hoping his run-good continues for an even bigger payday.

Event 21 Recap

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

It was a 21-year-old heads up against a mother who said, "I have children older than that," in the final trophy event of the Borgata Summer Poker Open.  And in the end Tom Gleason (Blackwood, NJ) used his youth to outlast Alyson Parker (Plainsboro, NJ) to win the title.

"I don't know, maybe I made a mistake," said Parker when she called Gleason's all in preflop shove with QJ against his KJ, "maybe I'm just old and tired," she said.

The players were nearly dead even in chips before the hand which was a 4.2 million pot.

"You played great," Gleason told Parker after he won the trophy and the $12,550 top prize on the next hand with pocket fives.

Before Black Friday Gleason was a heads up specialist who is now grinding live games and helping out in his family's used car business.

"I felt his range was really wide against me," Parker added, "I'm a little sad, but what are you going to do?"

Gleason and Parker traded double ups five times while heads up, which included pocket queens twice for Parker.

Prior to that, Gleason got a break when Kevin Lupowitz shoved 600k into a 150k pot with AQ when Gleason flopped a straight for a 1.2 million chip pot.  "That hand really helped," said Gleason who admitted to being on tilt after bleeding chips.

Another player victimized by a flopped straight was Leonardo Palermo. He finished third when Parker flopped the same 10-high straight as Gleason did against Lupowitz.

"Sicko hand," said Palermo who flopped top pair, "it's too bad I went out that way."

Also at the final table was Tiffany Williamson who finished 15th in the 2005 WSOP Main Event for $400,000 the year Joe Hachem won. In this tournament she finished in 8th place.

The day began with 231 entries putting up $46,200 in total buy-ins.  The field featured Event 20 winner Doug Pinto ($12,636) and the top two in the battle for the Borgata Leaderboard points lead.

Cuong Phung was first overall with 120 points more than Steve Eyzerovich.  Phung failed to make the money, but the math said Eyzerovich needed a deep run to over take Phung as the series leader.

Eyzerovich squeaked into the money, but a 27th place finish for $403 won't be enough to for him to win the top prize, a $3,500 entry into the WPT Borgata Poker Open in September.

In the end, a compelling final table was a good way to close out the 21st trophy event of the Summer Open.  "The series was great," said Parker, "They [Borgata] do what they do better than anyone around."

Event 21: 2nd Place - Parker

Alyson Parker (Plainsboro, NJ)

Parker's valiant effort comes to an end when her last 200k is all in dark with K9 against the pocket 5s of Tom Gleason.

Parker doubled-up three times in heads up play, twice with pocket queens, but the hand that left her short was when she lost with QJ to Gleason's KQ.

"I'm a little sad, but what are you going to do," says Parker, who earns her largest career cash of $7,394.

Parker finished second in a 2010 Borgata Ladies Event, but has since elevated her game to play in more open fields. In addition to being a mother she works in real estate.

"I was free rolling with all the bounties," Parker adds, "so everything else is extra."

Event 21: Steve Makes Money, Busts

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

 Steve (right) Explains the Action

Vyacheslav "Steve" Eyzerovich (Staten Island, NY) survives the money bubble, but doesn't last long as he's eliminated in 27th place.

Eyzerovich loses with AK against 77 for his last 55k and will pick up a few more points in the Tournament Leaderboard standings for his min cash of $403.

Coming into the final day of the Borgata Summer Poker Open, Eyzerovich trailed Cuong Phung, who failed to make the money, by 120 points.

Eyzerovich and Phung have one more chance to pick up points as they're now both playing in the final event of the series which began at 6 pm.

The winner of the Leaderboard contest wins a $3,500 seat into the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship Event in September.

Event 21: In the Money!

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

The bubble only takes 15 minutes and is over when Chris DeQuarto (Norfolk, VA) adds to his bounties.  His AK knocks out a player who is down to 9k in chips and holding AQ.

The knockout comes in 28th place and sends the remaining 27 players into the money for a min cash of $403.

Brendan Buckley (Long Beach, NY) continues to lead the chip counts with nearly 600k.

Event 21: Two Men Overboard

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

 DeQuarto Dispatches Two More

Chris DeQuarto (Norfolk, VA) pockets another $100 with a double knockout while holding pocket 10s.  "I'm officially free rolling," says the Navy man, who is originally from Brooklyn, NY.

Chris Edwards is one of the casualties as DeQuarto now has 7 knockouts. The field is down to 36, nine from the money.

Event 21: Back From Break

 $200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

Back from break with 38 players.  27 get paid, so countdown to the bubble has begun.

Level 16:  Blinds 2,500/5,000 with 500 ante.

Average stack is 122k.

Brendan Buckley (Long Beach, NY) is well above average with 565k.  He's also well above the field.

Brendan sends a shout-out to the Real Annie Duke.

Event 21: Bounty Hunter Busted

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

Former big stack and big-time bounty hunter Luke Smith has busted out.  He left with at least 7 bounties, so still made a profit on his entry.

Down to 40 players already.  Average stack is 116k.

Steve Eyzerovich is still in (after re-entering once) and is not only hunting for bounties, but is also in the hunt for more leaderboard points.

End of level 15 and players are on break while the black 100 chips are colored up.

Event 21: Buckley Busts Both

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

In a three-way pre-flop all in, chip leader Brendan Buckley (Long Beach, NY) had AK and was behind both pocket Queens and pocket Jacks.

Then the board came  9 9 8 A 4 and Brendan paired his Ace on the turn for the bigger pair, busting both opponents in the process.  He added two more bounties to his growing collection (5 so far).

"Suck out!"  he said "I told you, I suck out!"

He's now up to ~480k and well ahead of the field.

Leonardo Palermo's QT somehow cracks David Laufer's pocket Kings.  David reported to the rail.

Leonardo pocketed another bounty.  "Three or four" he can't remember.

Down to five tables now and they're going 9-handed.  Already down to 45 players.

Average is 103k.

Borgata Leaderboard points leader Cuong Phung has busted out.  Tonight's 6pm tournament will be his last chance to accumulate points.

Event 21: Palermo v Presman

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

On the turn with a board of 9 5 2 3, Alex Presman checked.  Leonardo Palermo (button) bet 11,700.  Alex called.

River was an 8 and both players checked.  Leonardo showed A9 off for a pair of 9s.  Alex mucked.

Leonardo chipped up to ~120k.  Alex was left with ~130k.

Brendan Buckley (Long Beach, NY) is still the chip leader.  He's up to ~340k.

55 players remain.  Average is 84k.

He has also collected three bounties.

 David Deneergaard & Luke Smith

Bounties are the tie-breaker though.  David has collected 3 bounties so far.  Luke has collected 7!  With $350 already in his pocket in green chips, Luke is free-rolling in this event.

***  Cuong Phung, winner of event 19 and leaderboard points leader, has been moved to table 8 with David Deneergaard.  ***

Event 21: Parker Doubles

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

Blinds up!

Level 11:  Blinds 80/1,600 with 200 ante.

Alyson Parker (Plainsboro, NJ) had her last chips in with JT offsuit.  Her opponent was ahead with pocket 9s.

The board came K J 7 5 3 and Alyson took the pot with a pair of Jacks, denying her opponent her bounty.

Alyson's table (13) will be the next to break, so that tough collection of players will be scattered into empty seats elsewhere in the room.

***  When table 13 broke, Alyson Parker and Chris Tsiprailidis were both moved to table 3, but they are no longer seated next to each other.  ***

Event 21: Young Kings Good

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

Young Yoon was involved in a three-way pre-flop all-in.  He had both opponents covered in chips and crushed with pocket Kings.

 Young Yoon

One short-stack had AT.  The other had AQ.

The board came Q 9 2 3 2 and Young's Kings were good.  He collected the pot and his first two bounties of the day.

Event 21: Back In Action

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

After a color up break, play has resumed with

Level 10:  Blinds 600/1,200 with 200 ante.

140 players remain of the (unofficial) 231 that entered.  Average stack is 33k.

Event 21: Bounties Abound

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty NLH

Tables are breaking fast now that no new entries (or re-entries) are arriving.

Doug Pinto busted out and re-entered before reigstration closed, landing to the left of big stack Alex Tresman.

 Vyacheslav 'Steve' Eyzerovich

Steve Eyzerovich busted out and re-entered.  It was a good move for him as he just flopped a set of 8s to bust a player with AJ, collecting his first bounty.  He's up to ~50k.

Gil Sacks doubled up with 4s-full against a player with trip Aces, leaving that player short.  Gil got the last of his chips and hit bounty soon after.

End of level 9 and time for another break.

Event 21: New Chip Leader

Event 21: Jimmy The Greek

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Blinds Up!

Level 8:  Blinds 400/800 with 75 ante.  This is the last 20-minute level.

Demetrios Georgous (Washington Heights, NY) is in the field today.  "Just call me Jimmy the Greek" he says.  He's cashed several times here at Borgata, including a couple of final tables, but is still looking for his first title.

 Demetrios Georgous

"I started gambling when I was 8 years old, playing in my parents Stud games at home" that's why they call him Jimmy the Greek.  "I was born on the day of Super Bowl #1" he says.  That makes him a Capricorn and forty-something years old.

Last summer, Demetrios told me an hour into event 18 that he was going to win that tournament.  Well, he didn't, so I guess you can't believe everything he says (like most gamblers).

That event was won by Adam Agaev (Brooklyn, NY) who picked up $28,026 for his victory.

Event 21: Tough Table Thirteen

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Registration is officially closed -- no more re-entries!

Level 7:  Blinds 300/600 with 75 ante.

My pick for toughest table in the room goes to table 13.

Syracuse Chris Tsiprailidis - 1 WSOP bracelet, $2.6+ million lifetime
Cuong Phung - Event 19 winner, points leader

John Ciofalo - 7th in event 19
Steve Eyzerovich - winner of event 3, second on points leaderboard

Event 21: Table Change!

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Blinds Up!

Level 6:  Blinds 200/400 with 50 ante.

Chris Edwards (Little Silver, NJ) has managed to get a table change -- by busting out and re-entering.

 Chris Edwards

On a flop of A Q Q, he got his chips in and found out his Ace was out-kicked by AK.  He busted out and re-entered, landing at a new table that he likes much better.

This is the last level for entering and re-entering.  Registration will close at the end of the break following level six.

Event 21: Braverman Misses Bounty

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Blinds Up!

Level 5:  Blinds 150/300 with 25 ante.

During the previous level, Ronnie Braverman's top pair/top kicker had a short-stack all-in and at risk.  No bounty for Ronnie, though.  His opponent caught a flush on the river to double up.

Event 21: Early Chip Leader

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Level 4:  Blinds 100/200.

Players concluded three levels then took a break.  They're back in action again, looking for bounties.

 Florentino DeLeon, Jr.

As of the break, the chip lead belonged to Florentino DeLeon, Jr. (Joppa, MD) who had ~60k.  He's tripled his starting stack and collected one bounty in the process.

Leading in the hunt for Bounties is Leonardo Palermo, who has already collected two.  He's up to ~45k.

Event 21: Looking For More

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Gregg Miller (Marlboro, NJ) finished 7th in yesterday's $260 Big Stack NLH event ($1,685) and he's back again today, in the hunt for bounties.

Glenn Lafaye (Ridgefield, CT) is back for more, after finishing 32nd in the Championship event ($4,402).

'Syracuse' Chris Tsiprailidis is making an appearance today.  Chris won his WSOP bracelet playing Limit Hold'em in 2000 and he has more titles than you can shake a stick at.  He's won tournaments from Atlantic City to Los Angeles, with winnings in excess of $2.6 million, but has yet to claim a Borgata Open title.  Could this be his day?

Event 21: Familiar Faces

$200 + $30 + $50 Double Green Chip Bounty Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Although many Borgata Regulars have returned to lives, or moved on to Vegas for the WSOP, there are still some familiar faces in today's final Summer Open event.

Headlining today's field is Cuong Phung (Atlantic City, NJ) who is the points leader in the Leaderboard Contest.  He's got 693 points and leads second place by 120 points, thanks to his win in event 19 a couple of days ago.

Event 21: Ace-Men Cometh

On the first hand of play, when the stacks were all even at 20k each,  Leonardo Palermo (Toms River, NJ) and Ronnie Braverman (New Camp Square, PA) went to the flop, then got all the chips in the middle.

 Leonardo Palermo & Ronnie Braverman - Ace-Men

Both had visions of $25 Green Bounty Chips in their heads...until they rolled over their hands.

BOTH players had pocket Aces!  Nobody caught the four-flush so they chopped the pot and no one collected any bounties.

Level 2:  Blinds 50/100.

      Event 20 Recap

      $260 + $40 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Doug Pinto (Princeton, NJ) had his arm twisted to come to the Borgata Summer Poker Open and he's glad he finally gave in.  Pinto defeated Leo Goldberger (Brooklyn, NY) heads up to win the penultimate event of the series and $12,636.

"After all the texts, emails and phone calls I decided to play," said Pinto who gave credit to friend Steve Coppola (Staten Island, NY) for convincing him to come along.  "I didn't want him to be alone," joked Pinto who was glad for Coppola's support on the rail after he busted early in the day.

The pivotal heads up hand came when Pinto and Goldberger were nearly dead even in chips and Pinto out flopped Goldberger's pocket jacks with K 8.  A few hands later, Pinto won the tournament with Q 2♠ vs Goldberger's pocket 2s when the board double paired and Pinto's queen kicker was best.

"I got a little unlucky at the end," said Goldberger, "but overall I played very, very good."

Borgata trophy winner James Sloat came to the final table with the chip lead and rode it to a third place finish.  "I had to make some tough lay downs," said Sloat, who won a Deep Stack in April's Spring Poker Open for $34,000.  "I don't like calling off against another big stack," he said.

After the money bubble broke, it only took one hour to go from 18 to seven players as the eliminations were fast and furious.  Borgata regular Rob Saladin came in 15th place ($737), while familiar face Matt Piccolo finished 5th.

The 167 entries featured the Miller brothers, Borgata regular Eric and his brother Gregg, who finished in 7th place.  Others who contributed to the $43,420 total buy-in included Jason Warriner
Andrew Interdonato and Borgata three time trophy winner Howard Wolper.

"This is my first official Borgata win with a trophy," said Pinto, who was all smiles.  "I need to unwind and then be back in the morning. I want to go back-to-back."

No arm twisting this time for Pinto who said he and Coppola will be playing in Friday's final event of the Summer Open.

      Final Table Results

      Event 20 Winner - Pinto

      $260 + $40 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

      Doug Pinto (Princeton, NJ)
      $12,636

      Blinds 30k/60k/5k ante

The pivotal hand comes with Pinto holding K 8 vs Leo Goldberger's pocket jacks.

      Pinto: K 8
      Goldberger: J♠ J♣

Flop: K♣ A♠ 10 (Pinto pair of kings, Goldberger gutshot straight draw)

      Turn: 8♠ (Pinto two pairs)

      River: 2

Pinto wins the hand with two pairs, kings and eights and it's actually a double-up.  Goldberger barely has Pinto covered and after shipping 1.555 across the table is left with 225k.

A few hands later Pinto wins the tournament with Q 2 vs the pocket 2s of Goldberger. The board runs out 9 9 6 6 7 and Goldberger's pocket pair is counterfeited giving Pinto the win with his queen kicker.

"This is my first official Borgata win with a trophy," says Pinto, who is all smiles.

The stock trader was persuaded by friend Steve Coppola (Staten Island, NY) to play in the tournament and is now $12,636 richer because of it.  Coppola busted early in the day, but was on the rail watching Pinto get the win.

      Event 20: 2nd Place - Goldberger

      $260 + $40 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

       Leo Goldberger (Brooklyn, NY)
      $6,949

Goldberger was down 2 to 1 in chips when heads up play began, but pulled even with a great run of cards.  On four straight hands he got KK, AK, AA and JJ, but unfortunately the jacks didn't hold.

Goldberger, after showing the first three hands without a flop, is called by Doug Pinto with K 8. Pinto ends up with two pairs and most of the chips.

A few hands later Goldberger is eliminated when his pocket twos are counterfeited and Pinto's Q 2 wins the tournament with the queen kicker.

"I got a little unlucky at the end," said Goldberger, "but overall I played very, very good."

Goldberger, who started his own business dealing with self help, earned $6,949 for his runner-up finish.

      Event 20: 3rd Place - Sloat

      $260 + $40 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

      Flop: A♣ 3 8♠

      Turn: 6♣

      River: 8

Goldberger's queens hold and he knocks out Sloat in 3rd place for $4,001.

Goldberger is now heads up with Doug Pinto who has a 2 to 1 chip lead, 2.2 million to 1.1 million.

Event 20: Sloat Doubles Through Pinto

      $260 + $40 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
