Champ: Dever Never Dreamed of Lead
$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Cathy Dever (Ephrata, PA) jumped out to an early chip lead and then bagged the end of night chip lead and $3,000 bonus, but the big story was everything in between.
"Patience and not going on tilt," were the keys said Dever, who ended Day 1B with 159,900.
"I was thinking I had all these chips and I have to get them back," she said after going from 100k down to 60k at the dinner break. "I was so mad that I had to calm down."
Dever got off to a great start when she busted a player with the nut flush, but over the next three hours saw a steady bleed and lost nearly half her stack.
After taking a nap on the dinner break and grabbing a quick sandwich, the Borgata regular was refreshed, but her luck didn't change until her table broke. Dever regained her footing and started moving into contention for the chip lead, but the bonus never affected her play.
"I just wanted chips," said Dever, who has multiple Borgata cashes totaling $41,000, including a cash in April's Spring Poker Open Championship Event.
"The bonus is nice, but obviously the big goal is first place. I want the trophy and the $200,000."
Dever knows there are three more days of poker before she can seriously think about the $198,078 first prize.
"I'm so excited," she said after being congratulated by several players including Nancy Martin (Washington Crossing, PA), one of the other woman players left in the field. "But I'm going to crash and go right to sleep."
And when Dever joins the players from Day 1A, she will be fourth overall in chips as play resumes noon Tuesday with 127 players starting Day 2.

It looks like anybody in the 150-160k range will be in the running for the end of Day 1B lead.

Kuznetsova shows A A which is a winner against A J.
Unfortunately Ted Geier (Sunnyside, NY) doesn't get the same courtesy as he's forced to fold to an 11k river bet on a board of 7 8 9 3 10. Geier folds and will always wonder if his opponent had the straight.

Champ: Turmoil on Table Eight
$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Trouble on table eight:
On the turn, the board read K♦J♦8♦T♣. The player in seat 9 moved all-in. Barry Leventhal, who was on his right in seat 8, tanked for a couple of minutes.
"To show the table he was not wasting time" according to Barry, he flashed his J♥J♠ to the rest of the table, but in a way seat 9 could not see it. [After the hand was over, Barry was given a warning for exposing his hand with action pending.]
His opponent apparently thought Barry was folding and turned his A♥A♣ face up.
Barry then called the all-in, having a set and having his opponent drawing to two outs, needing an Ace on the river to survive.
The floor got involved because some at the table thought Barry's hand should be dead. Barry insisted he was just showing his cards to the table, not to his opponent. "I'm not Mike D -- I don't do that" he insisted.
From Tournament Director's Association Rules 2011 Version 2.0:
52: Exposing Cards
A player who exposes his cards with action pending may incur a penalty, but will not have a dead hand. The penalty will begin at the end of the hand.
Barry's hand was live and he was ahead with a set of Jacks. Seat 9's hand is also live, despite also being exposed with action pending.
River was the 6♥. Barry had his opponent covered and he was busted. Barry's up to ~60k.

When Jon Cohen (Staten Island, NY) got the call that he won the on-line drawing for a seat into the Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship Event he thought it was bad news. "Usually I don't pickup, but I'm glad I did," he says while on break in the tournament.
In fact the Championship Event is a break for Cohen from his usual $2-$5 cash games. "Deep stacks more closely mimic cash," says Cohen who has 55k, nearly double the 30k starting stack.
"This is nice to play because the structure is amazing," says the full time poker pro, "You get to play a lot of poker before it becomes a shove-fest."
Cohen periodically jumps into tournaments, but the husband and father of three can usually be found grinding away on the Borgata cash tables and loves the way the Poker Room is run.
"Borgata does everything for the players," he says, "that's why they keep coming back."
Cohen had a relaxing Father's Day in New York, a day at the park and playing on the swings before heading back to his Borgata office. He's hoping his good play and now good fortune turns into a big payday.
Free Rollin' Cohen
When Jon Cohen (Staten Island, NY) got the call that he won the on-line drawing for a seat into the Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship Event he thought it was bad news. "Usually I don't pickup, but I'm glad I did," he says while on break in the tournament.
In fact the Championship Event is a break for Cohen from his usual $2-$5 cash games. "Deep stacks more closely mimic cash," says Cohen who has 55k, nearly double the 30k starting stack.

Champ: Bonacci Busted
$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Franco Bonacci (Pittsburgh, PA) was all-in and covered by Mo Farah (Philadelphia, PA).
Franco's pocket Kings were also covered by Mo's pocket Aces.
A King on the flop gave him new hope, but the last two came running Aces, giving Mo quadzilla and the pot. He's up to almost 50k.
Franco busted out after registration closed, so this event is over for him.
Still in and sharing the felt on table 9 with Mo are Eric Doerr, Paul Shedaker, Tim Bishop, Dan Spirer, and Rick Rossetti.

Champ: Lost and FOUND!
$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
It was a great Father's Day for Nancy Martin (Washington Crossings, PA) because her husband Bob found the sentimental pen she thought was lost at Borgata.
Martin also suspected that she dropped it in her car and when Bob did his weekly cleaning he found the pen next to the passenger side door. "Every weekend he cleans my car and fills it with gas," she says beaming with pride.
And adds, "he had a great Father's Day," despite the manual labor which he enjoys.
Nancy's poker playing son Michael ($3+ million tournament earnings) was home for a visit and the weekend was capped off by finding the engraved pen she's had for 25 years.
She now wants people to know she lost her card protector, but she's not releasing any details at this time.

Champ: Boatwright Survives
$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
On a flop of K 9 2 -- all spades -- Carless 'Joe' Boatwright (Woodbridge, VA) was all-in.
He had pocket 2s and had flopped a set, but his opponent had flopped a flush.
The last two cards fell J 9 and the river paired giving Joe the full boat and double-up.
Joe's got a tough table with Michael Michnik (Hollywood, FL) on his immediate left. Michael won the Borgata Leaderboard contest during the 2011 Fall Open.
He's also facing high-stakes cash game player Bruce Yamron (Naples, FL) across the same patch of felt on table 22.
That was just before the end of level 4. Players will get a break and that will be the end of the registration and re-entry period.

Champ: Aglialoro Keeps Climbing
$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
John Aglialoro (Haddonfield, NJ) has nearly doubled his stack, again. After going from 30k to 60k, he's now the chip leader with 115k, after he knocks out a player with set over set.
"A little early don't you think," he says, with a serious tone.
But it's never too early in the Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship Event when you're talking about a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool and a $3,000 bonus for the end of night chip leader.
Aglialoro is no stranger to Borgata or deep runs in big events. He has nearly $900,000 in career tournament earnings which includes a WSOP Main Event final table in 1994, a 7th place finish to Champion Russ Hamilton.
Kevin Zulauf (Atlantic City, NJ) has the unenviable seat to Aglialoro's immediate right.

Champ: Early Chip Leader
$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Cathy Dever (Ephrata, PA) has jumped into an early chip lead with 95k. When I walked up, her table was holding with three empty seats (not counting the 9 seat) while the staff moved over some players.
Cathy only busted one "with the nut flush" she said. "I'm actually playing pretty tight, and hitting hands" she explained.
Travis Greenawalt was on her table, but he busted out and has relocated to table 24, which is another tough one. Seated there are:
Rick Rossetti
Mario Rodriguez
Anthony Maio
Phong 'VIP' Nguyen
Jason Edelman

Champ: Bo's Breaking Bad
$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Bo Toft (Yardley, PA) says his cards are running so bad, he's watching Breaking Bad on his iPhone.
Bo bears a striking resemblance to the title character, Walter White, though it is hard to see on that tiny little screen.
Bo's got a rough table draw, also. He's on table 4 with:
Paul Vacchio - winner of event 10
Ben Geller
Alex Torres - 2nd in event 16

Champ: Dannenmann Done; Barnes Back
$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Steve Dannenmann didn't last long on table 25. Steve Eyzerovich got most of his chips, then Dannenmann went all-in dark and lost the rest.
Still waiting to see if he's going to re-enter.
Jack Barnes has re-entered and landed at table 1 with Matt Burnitz and Scott Blackman.
This event is played 9-handed, so the 9 seats are held open for early re-entries.
Three-time Borgata Open titleist Howard Wolper is up to ~52k. When I asked him how that happened, he replied "I got lucky".

Champ: Steve Times Two
$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Everybody's favorite runner-up, Steve Dannenmann, (Severn, MD) has arrived and taken his seat on table 25, next to Steve Eyzerovich.
Dannenmann won the $300 No Limit event here during the 2011 Borgata Winter Open, good for $37,679. That is somewhat dwarfed by the $4.25 million he took home for his second place finish in the 2005 WSOP main event.
Nevertheless, both Steves are Borgata Open title winners.

$2,500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
Level two is a wrap and players are settling in after their first break of the day.
Level 3: Blinds 75/150.
Shortly before the break, Victor Afonso (Wall, NJ) got all-in on an 8-high flop against 'Action' Bob Hwang.
Victor's pocket Kings were in a world of hurt against Bob's pocket Aces. Then he binked a 2-out King on the turn, to take the pot and double up with a set of Kings.
Victor's up to ~60k. Bob was left with ~13k.
A couple of other players have doubled their starting stacks by the first break:
Jin Ro (Sewell, NJ) & John Aglialoro (Haddonfield, NJ) are both sitting on ~60k.

He also sits alone at the top of the leaderboard. With 516 points as of this morning's update, he is 129 points ahead of second place Cuong Phung (Atlantic City, NJ).
Steve won event 3, the Pot Limit Omaha Black Chip Bounty event, and $8,299, and he's been tearing up the nightly events.

It is only the second level of play, but the call of "Seat Open!" has already been heard.

Jack had both straight and flush draws. Luis had AK and two overcards to the board.
Jack whiffed all his outs on the river and Luis took the pot with AK high.
Don't know if Jack plans to re-enter or not, but he's got the option open to him through level four.
