Event 14: Stuck at Seven

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

Still seven HORSEs in this race.  Average stack is 120k.

Playing Omaha H/L:

Brendan Norton was all-in against Marcus Bower and they chopped the pot.

The game changed to Razz:

Brendan picked up a small pot to stay alive.

Paying Stud:

Marcus Bower made Queens-full to win a big pot from Marc Rabuse.  Marcus is now over 300k.

Brendan Norton was all-in on third street.  When the cards ran out, Mohammad Imran had a Queen-high flush, but Brendan had an Ace-high flush to take the pot.

Event 13: Wolper Walking

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Three-time Borgata Open titleist Howard Wolper (Atlantic City, NJ) took a bad beat and reported to the rail.

Apparently he was short-stacked and all-in pre-flop, leading with KT against 86 suited.  His opponent flopped open-ended, then hit his straight.

Howard took off in 21st place, three from the money.  The 20 surviving players are now seated at two tables.  Two more must go to reach the money.

Event 14: 9th - Leake; 8th - Vataru

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

Jason Leake (Witley, Ontario) busted out in 9th place, earning $652.

With his departure, the official final table of eight was formed.

Soon after, Eddy V (NY) got his short-stack in the middle against two opponents.

On the river the board read K T 5 9 5.  Brian Grogan showed T9 for two pair to take the pot.  Eddy mucked and headed for the payout station.

Eddy finished 8th for $869.

Marcus Bower is up to ~250k and still in the lead.

Lana O'Brien is second with ~190k.

Brendan Norton has slipped all the way down to 25k and is the short-stack.

Event 13: Color Up Break

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

They're taking the black 100 chips out of play during the break.

22 players remain.  Average stack is 125k.  Only 18 get paid, and 18th place gets $220 less than the other 17.

John Hinds tweeted his status:

2 hrs ago I was surviving, now I am surthriving. Way above avg stack w/ 22 left, 18 ppl get to have fun #teammurder

After the break, blinds will be 4k/8k with 1k ante.

Brian Mooney has dropped down to ~120k.  There is no clear chip leader as it appears no one player has over 200k.

Event 14: Ahead By a Nose

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

Marcus Bower

Marcus Bower (Brigantine, NJ) has pulled into the lead.  He's up to ~135k

Lana O'Brien and Brendan Norton are neck-and-neck with ~120k each.

Eleven horses are left in the race, with only 9 making the money.

Limits are up to 3k/6k.  Total chips in play is 840k.  Average stack is 76k (almost 12 big bets).

Event 13: Rossetti Doubles

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Rick Rossetti (Linwood, NJ) was all-in pre-flop for his last 41,300.

After giving it some thought, Raj Patel (Meriden, CT) made the call.

 Rick Rossetti & Raj Patel

Rick held T♣7♣.  Raj was in the lead with AJ♠.

The board came K♣6♠2♣5♣5♠ and Rick said "SHIP IT!" when he made a flush on the turn to take the pot, double up, and survive.

26 survivors are still battling for the 18 spots getting paid.

Event 13: Not Surviving

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Blinds Up!

Level 17:  Blinds 3k/6k with 500 ante.

Joe Mosca (Bronx, NY) got his short stack in and doubled up with AK against AT suited, but it wasn't enough and he busted out soon after.

Also gone is Leanne Rosenblatt (Brigantine, NJ).  With her departure, Alyson Parker (Plainsboro, NJ) is the last woman surviving in this event.

Event 14: Lucky 13

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

After the redraw to two tables at 16 players, they've already lost three more.

Frank Alger (Colonial Beach, VA) was the first to depart after the redraw.  He tweeted his demise:

Busted set of 7s on turn to river flush. Out of @borgatapoker $450 horse in 16th.

Brendan Norton still leads the remaining players.

Limits are up to 2,500/5,000.

Event 13: Mooney Still Leads

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Brian Mooney still leads the Survivors.  He's up to ~210k.

Down to 29.  Only 18 get paid.

Event 14: Lead HORSE

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

Limits are up to 2k/4k.

 Brendan Norton

Brendan Norton (Collegeville, PA) has pulled ahead of the field.

He's up to 105k and the only player over 100k (so far).

Down to 16 players remaining at two tables.  Only the final 9 get paid.

Event 14: Huge Multi-Way Stud/8 Pot

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

On table one, a huge multi-way, multi-all-in hand of Stud High/Low went down.

Huge Stud H/L Hand, on 6th Street

Six players went to the river and by then, four of them were all-in.  Miraculously, the dealer, Angel, kept all the side pots straight!

When the last cards were dealt, they used every card in the deck except the very last one (which is never supposed to be used).

Mohammad Imran & Lana O'Brien Chop Up the Table

After the river bets were made, Lana O'Brien (Englishtown, NJ) said "I have a boat" and showed Jacks-full of sixes (which she had made on 6th).

Mohammad Imran, (Galloway, NJ) the only other player that still had chips left, turned over his low: 87653.

All four of the all-in players mucked their hands.  One had a flush that was no good.

FOUR PLAYERS were eliminated on that one hand.

Lana chipped up to ~80k.  Mohammad chipped up to ~75k.

Event 14: HORSEs Scratched

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

They're down to 24 runners in the HORSE event at three tables.

 Bo Toft - Busto

Two of my favorites have busted out:  Bo Toft and Vincent Basilicata.

Event 14: HORSEs are Back

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

Play resumed after dinner with limits of 1,500/3,000.

Long way to go to whittle the field down from 28 to the final table of 9 that will get paid.

End of level and time for dinner break.

Brian Mooney

Looks like Brian Mooney is the chip leader as of dinner.  He's got about 180k.

35 players remain in the hunt.

Play will resume after dinner at about 8:25 pm.

Event 14: HORSEs -> Feedbag

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

They finished level 12 just before 7 pm and called the race on account of dinner.

The 28 remaining horses are now tying on the the feedbags.

Play will resume at about 7:58pm.

Event 13: Hanging On

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Blinds are up to 1,500/3,000 with 400 ante.

Down to 4 tables with 40 players.

Among those still Surviving are:
Howard Wolper
Leanne Rosenblatt
Satish Surapaneni
Bob 'Mad Viking' Haavind

Event 14: Which HORSE is the Favorite?

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

Vincent Basilicata

Vincent Basilicata won the HOSE event here before Razz was added to the mix, so that's got to give him an edge over the field.

Making it to 10th place in a field of 770 runners at the WSOP HORSE event has got to give Lana O'Brien an edge (she was Lana Maier at the time).

Winning titles playing Omaha H/L, Stud, Stud H/L, and Limit Hold'em, must give Bo Toft the advantage.  The only game they are playing today in which he has not won a title is Razz.

Event 14: HORSEs Still In The Race

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

Level 14 is underway with Limits of 1k/2k.

Only 38 HORSEs remain in this race.

Among those are:

Lana O'Brien (10th in 2009 WSOP $1,500 HORSE, won Ladies event at 2011 Borgata Fall Open)
Joe Loguidice  (numerous Borgata Open cashes & final tables)
Vincent Basilicata (2-Time Borgata Open winner)
Richie Rubenstein (final tabled PLO/8 a few days ago)
Bo Toft (over half a million in earnings)

Event 13: Back From Break

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

End of level and time for a break.

Play resumed after the break with blinds of 1,200/2,400 with 300 ante.

Down to five tables (50 players).

Event 13: Another Tough Table

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Killer Korner:  Raj Patel, Mike Kalfa, & Wooyang Lin

Table five is also looking very tough right now.  Seated there are:

Rick Rossetti (2006 WSOPC Champion)
Raj Patel  (2007 Foxwoods WPT Champion)
Mike Kalfa (numerous Borgata Open cashes & final tables)
Wooyang Lin (numerous Borgata Open cashes & final tables)
Joe Mosca (2012 BWO $270 Big Stack NLH winner)

Event 13: Surviving at a Tough Table

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Blinds are up to 1k/2k with 3k ante.

Down to 60 players at six tables still surviving.  Table six will be the next one to break and the players seated there can't wait.

Mike Linster, John Hinds, & Dan Spirer

The current lineup is a rough one:
Brian Mooney (3 final tables at Borgata Open events)
Mike Linster (winner of first-ever "All-In or Fold" event 2 days ago)
John Hinds (has cashed in a main event in the last five Open series)
Dan Spirer (winner of 2010 BPO Six Max)

Event 13: Any Way You Slice It

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

A player is all in after flopping two pairs and his opponent calls with a heart flush draw.  The board goes spade-club, but the player on a draw goes runner-runner for a higher two pairs.

The losing player is visibly annoyed and sulks away from the table which sparks a conversation.

In that scenario, is it more annoying to lose to the flush or two pairs?

Alyson Parker (Planesboro, NJ) says, "it doesn't matter, you got your money in ahead and that's what you want."

Dustin Manns (Media, PA) adds, "I'm a little more annoyed at losing by not what you expected, but I'm not going to get mad."

Either way, the player with two pairs did not survive.

Event 13: Man Down, Levels Longer

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Mosca (center) Slides a Stack as Rosseti (left of Mosca)
& All In Player (left) Watch

The field is falling fast as more than 100 players have busted and the remaining count is at 80.

Borgata trophy winner Joe Mosca (Bronx, NY) gets the lastest knockout with pocket 9s against AK. He and another Borgata regular Rick Rossetti (Ventor, NJ) are side-by-side.

The average stack is 34k (21 BB) as blinds are now 800/1,600/200 ante and levels increase from 30 to 40 minutes.

Event 13: Bye Bye Green

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Color-up Break

The green (25) chips are now out of play as players are back from a 15 minute color-up break.  110 players remain with an average stack of 25k (21 BB).

Blinds moving up to 600/1,200, 200 ante.

PM Schedule

4 pm Bounty & 7 pm Championship Qualifier

As the two main events of the day grind on, here's a look at the afternoon/evening schedule.

Kicking off in minutes is the $100 + $20 + $100 bounty tournament.  There's always lots of action in this event as players look for knockouts because two bounties is nearly a free roll.

The first Championship Qualifier is at 7 pm as ~1 in 20 win seats into the Championship Event which kicks off Sunday (Day 1A).

It's a $135 + $25 entry and is a whopping 94% discount from the $2,700 price tag.

Full List of Championship Qualifiers

Event 14: Man Down

400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

The first player is out of the horse tournament and it's newbie that finishes him off.

Harry Korotki (Owings Mills, MD), who busted from the Survivor tournament and signed up late for this event, does the honors.  "Never played it before," he says.  "And I won the hand on the only game I know."

Korotki's three of a kind beats two pairs in the round of Hold'em.

Players are back from break and playing limits of 400/800.  The more experienced horse players say people will "drop like flies," when the limits hit 600/1,200.

Event 13: Poker Faces

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Sachse, Dellaquila & Managanro

Eric Dellaquila (Little Neck, NY) contemplates an all-in bet and eventually folds.  "Such an over bet," he says, while living to fight another day.

Dellaquila is between short stack Kim Sachse (Baltimore, MD) and one of the bigger stacks at the table James Managanro (Nutley, NJ).

Level 9 (500/1k/100 ante) is underway.

Event 13: Nines not Devine

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Twice in two hands pocket 9s are no good on two different tables.

Tom Smargiassi (Union, NJ) moves all in with 9 9 and John Nigro (Brooklyn, NY) makes the call with pocket 7s.  When a 7 hits the flop, Smargiassi is on the rail laughing, "I wouldn't have made that call against me."

Two minutes later pocket 9s try and knock out a player, but again they don't hold.  This time it's a coin flip and John Morales (Union City, NJ) gets the double-up with K J when he flops two pairs.

130 of the ~180 players remain as Level 8 (400/800/75 ante) is underway.

Event 14: Barn Closed

$400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

Horse Tables Near the Horse Racebook

More than 50 players are in the field as registration is now closed.

The deep structure allows for a lot of play and so far not one player has busted.  In fact every player still as their 5k blue chip so nobody is even short stacked.

The limit betting makes it tough to go broke early.

Level 5 (200/400 Limits) underway.

Event 13: "I Did Not Survive"

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Phung Out of Survivor, but Cashing In

Cuong Phung (Atlantic City, NJ) is on the tournament rail, but knee deep in the cash tournament.

"I did not survive," he says with a laugh.  But something he's serious about is the Borgata Summer Poker Open Leaderboard.

Early this morning Phung finished 4th in Event 12 for $12,982 vaulting him from 15th place to 4th overall.

He says a deep run in one of the side events is what has him in contention.

While he grinds away at the cash games, Phung is keeping an eye on the rest of today's schedule which includes a 4 pm bounty tournament ($120 + $100 bounty) and the 7 pm Championship Qualifier ($150, ~1 in 20 win seats) as all tournaments count in the standings.

Event 13: Radio Row

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Harkenrider & Weixel

The Division of Poker Radio Network is on Media Row and unfortunately for Steve Weixel his appearance is premature after busting at the end of Level 3.

"I knew I was taking a chance when I over shoved," he says to radio partner Dan Harkenrider. Weixel is recounting how he shoved 100 BB from the SB with AK in a multi-way pot and was called by the original raiser's pocket 7s.

"I'll be criticized, but whatever," he adds.

Harkenrider skipped the survivor and is taking aim at the 4 pm Black Chip Bounty ($100 + $20 + $100 Bounty).

The Division of Poker Radio features multiple broadcasts including the Chris Moneymaker Radio Show.

Event 13: Elbow Room

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

Sykes, Troncone & Durso

Debbie Troncone ("I say I'm from Monroe Township, N.J., but really I live at Borgata") is a rose between two thorns and says, "it's not fair they're trying to knock me out so they can have more elbow room."

Troncone, who busted Event 2 in 12th place ($1,143) when her kings ran into aces, is between John Sykes (Brooklyn, NY) and Robert Durso (Benshonhurt, NY).

Somebody else at the table chimes in, "if you take them out, they won't have to worry about it."

Registration is closed as Level 5 (150/300/25 ante) is underway.

Event 13: Last Level for Late Registration

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

 Manns Not Dustin' off Chips

WSOP circuit ring holder Dustin Manns (Media, PA) is in the field after skipping out of work.

The software engineer says the tournament is great value and fits his game perfectly. Manns is at the same table with Ted Geier (Sunnyside, NY) and Fritz Stoner (Lancaster, PA).

Level 4 (100/200) is underway and the last level to enter the tournament.

Event 14: Flower Day

$400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

Flowering Jacobs

The calendar may say it's Flag Day, but for Stephen Jacobs (Elberon, NJ) it's Flower Day.

The Borgata regular who has several nicknames including "Einstein," says everyday is flower day, and that "if I gave flowers to all my girlfriends, I'd be broke."

Event 14: Saddle Up

$400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

Borgata trophy winners Tim D'Alessandro (West Chester, PA) and Lana O'Brien (Bound Brook, NJ) are in the house and joining the field of familiar faces:

Tim D'Alessandro
Lana O'Brien
Jeff Jerome
Carlos Juarez
Frank Alger
Stephen Jacobs

Event 14: Corralling All Horses

$400 + $50 H.O.R.S.E.

The Horse players are champing at the bit (yes champing is preferred to chomping) to play the first mixed game of the Borgata Summer Poker Open.

One player is quickly becoming a favorite on Media Row and tweets:

Less than 15 minutes until the $450 horse summer event 14. Gonna avoid media area today. Run bad when i head over there.

Don't worry we'll try and change that luck and head to the area near the Racebook where this tournament is set to go.

Here's a H.O.R.S.E. refresher course

Event 13: I Will Survive

$400 + $50 Survivor No Limit Hold'em

After a day of mad house poker, players are catching their breath and bunkering down for a long grind.

The survivor format is simple and is tailored made for those short stacks who typical min cash, but don't build enough of a stack to contend for the big money spots.  As long as you have chips when the bubble breaks, you're a winner.

Players put up $450 and all the survivors take home $4,000 in cool hard cash.

Stacks are 15k, levels are 30 minutes each (Levels 11+ / 40 min.) and this one day tournament is underway.

      Event 12 Recap

      $260 + $40 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

"My kids will never believe I won this" said Allen Mock (Manheim, PA).  After 5am in the morning, he's having a hard time believing it himself.  In his first ever reported tournament cash, Mock earned $44,295 and a Borgata Summer Poker Open trophy.

Mock claimed the chip lead with three tables remaining, when he picked off a short-stack moving in light.  He then took out former chip leader Ed Grau, (Baltimore, MD) when his KT outran Grau's AJ on the board.  Grau, who won the inaugural 2011 Fall Poker Open version of this event, (963 entries, good for $42k first place) finished in 20th place ($1,012).

Those pots gave Mock the momentum he needed to make the final table, then take down the tournament.

"I play in bar tournaments back home, for practice" Mock said.   He's just had ankle replacement surgery and is out of work for a while, so came to Borgata for some R&R, and some poker.  He's headed back home with a first place cash and trophy.

In an unusual coincidence, runner up Alex Beleson (Manalapan, NJ) is also an amateur booking his first ever tournament cash.  His second place finish was good for $25,774.  Beleson is a retail sales manager and feels that interacting with the public in his job helps him read opponents better at the poker table.  He is also headed home to celebrate.

This event carried a $100,000 GUARANTEE on the total buy ins, but with 757 entries, the total swelled to nearly double that:  $196,820.  The final 72 players carved up the prize pool.

Local poker pro and Borgata tournament regular Cuong Phung (Atlantic City, NJ) finished 4th when his flopped trips ran into a flopped full house.  He collected $12,982 which will put his lifetime reported tournament earnings over a quarter-million dollars.

Sandy Leonhardt (Beachwood, NJ) was the last woman in this event.  She finished 22nd for $1,012.

      Borgata regulars who cashed, include:
42nd place  - Jose Montes (Bronx, NY)
38th place - Jason Henrici (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ)
      37th place - Daniel Chan (New York, NY)  all earning $802;
      61st place - Dan Spirer (Mechanicsville, PA) earning $630;
65th place - Ted Geier (Sunnyside, NY) earning $554.

Borgata regulars who played, but did not make the money, include former Open winners Alex Rocha, Harry Korotki, Keith Crowder, Phil Neiman, Joe Liberta, Roz Quarto, and James Boyle.

If Allen Mock's kids don't believe he won this event, he can show them the cash.  If that doesn't convince them, he can show them his shiny new 2012 Borgata Summer  Poker Open trophy.

      Final Table Results

      1 - Allen Mock (Manheim, PA)  $44,295
      2 - Alex Beleson (Manalapan, NJ)  $25,774
3 - Dan Beavers (White Plains, MD)  $15,751
4 - Cuong Phung (Atlantic City, NJ)  $12,982
      5 - Rick Chang (Lawrenceburg, IN)  $10,500
      6 - David Scherer (Manchester, CT)  $8,591
      7 - Henry Telias (N Woodmere, NY)  $6,873
      8 - Aaron Frese (Phoenixville, PA)  $5,250
      9 - Syed Dib (Brooklyn, NY)  $3,627
      10 - Ezra Mann (Brooklyn, NY)  $2,386

      Event 12: 1st Place - Mock

      $260 + $40 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

The final cards fell right around 5am Thursday morning, after 18 hours of poker.  Allen Mock had all 18.9 million chips in play.  For his win today, he'll take home $44,925 and the beautiful Borgata Summer Open Trophy.

Allen gets his practice playing bar tournaments back home.  This is his first ever reported tournament cash.  He came to Borgata for a mix of vacation and poker, but his time is up and he has to go back home.  He works for the US Postal Service, but is currently disabled due to ankle replacement surgery.  In his spare time, he collects old toys and trains.

Allen wanted to say Hi! to his kids back home, who he says will never believe he won this tournament and over $44,000.  If the cash doesn't convince them, he can show them the trophy.
