Rebecca & Buzz Saw Ed
Ed Grau (Baltimore, MD) loves these $100,000 guaranteed tournaments.
In the inaugural 2011 Fall Poker Open version, Grau was nicknamed the "Human Buzz Saw" on his way to the title as he outlasted 963 entries. The $42,000 payday is still his only cash in his career.
Fast forward to today's tournament and Grau has chipped his way all the way up to second overall with 537k. "No real big hands," says Grau who's getting support on the rail from Rebecca Tadros, also from Baltimore.
Grau says slow playing a set of 10s got him an 80k pot and the only other notable hands have been pocket jacks which have held up three times. He adds, "we've had them here ten times today and they've held every time."
Grau is the lone survivor of table 3 and only trails Alex Beleson (Manalapan, NJ) who's been a big stack all day and currently has 548k.
If Grau's going to go deep again he'll have to navigate a field of 747 entries as he tries for the $44,295 top prize.
The players are currently on a one hour dinner break.
